Nandan K. Mondal, Ph.D., assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support, has been awarded $30,000 by INSTINCT and Rice University ENRICH for his collaborative research titled, “Systemic Biomarkers and Modern Multimodal Machine Learning Algorithms for Stroke Prediction in Heart Failure Patients with Mechanical Circulatory Support.”

In this research project, Dr. Mondal and Vladimir Braverman, Ph.D., from the Department of Computer Science at Rice University, aim to develop accurate machine learning methods for neurological dysfunction prediction in heart failure patients implanted with mechanical circulatory support devices.

The INTSINCT and Rice University ENRICH seed grant program aims to promote excellent collaborative research among faculty in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery and Rice University.
