Program Goal
The goal of the fellowship is to develop independent health services research investigators. Fellows conduct research in healthcare quality under the guidance and direction of a mentoring team. Through peer review and presentations fellows develop their research in to a scholarly product.
About the Advanced Fellowship in Health Services Research
The Advanced Fellowship Program in Health Services Research is coordinated and led by the Center for Training in Healthcare Quality faculty and housed at IQuESt. The fellowship targets applicants who have completed their Ph.D. and physicians who have completed their clinical training. Fellows are paired with faculty mentors and undergo a Mentoring Plan within the first one to two months of starting the program. Each fellow will also complete a needs assessment in order to facilitate discussion regarding their training and development needs and aid in the development in the Mentoring Plan.
During the two-year fellowship, fellows undergo a curriculum that focuses on Foundations of Health Services Research and includes such topics as implementation science, grant process, U.S. Healthcare Systems, study designs, and quality improvement. In addition to gaining insight in HSR and the opportunity to present research to fellow peers, HSR fellows are exposed to Career Development courses aimed at facilitating collaboration in the field, fostering mentorship, building successful research programs, and gaining skills specific to their individual goals.
