As the COVID-19 pandemic has clearly illustrates, the borders that once held diseases in check have disappeared. Tropical diseases, once confined to certain geographic locales are no longer bound by borders. Professionals are needed in communities around the globe to diagnosis and treat these diseases, which disproportionality impact the bottom billion – the world’s poorest people.

The Baylor College of Medicine National School of Tropical Medicine Diploma Course in Tropical Medicine will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for patients at risk for these diseases.

The curriculum is comprised of three modules.

The Diploma in Tropical Medicine consists of three modules and lab practical. The course is accredited by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. With this accreditation, participants who complete the course are eligible to apply for the ASTMH Certificate of Knowledge Examination (provided additional examination application criteria are met). This examination assesses and recognizes individual excellence in training and knowledge in clinical tropical medicine and travelers' health. Passing this examination leads to the highly regarded CTropMed®-Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health.

Hands-on experience: Graduates of our program consistently cite the laboratory experience as among the most beneficial aspects of our program. Working in state-of-the-art Tropical Medicine teaching laboratory, participants gain hands-on experience in identifying and distinguishing parasites and parasitic eggs in samples; preparing samples for observation; and other skills they will need for working in the field whether in a well-equipped laboratory or in a resource poor setting.
