Essential Surgery Skills Conference 2023

The 2023 Essential Surgery Skills Conference will be held by Baylor College of Medicine as an educational collaboration by the National School of Tropical Medicine and the Departments of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urology, Orthopedic Surgery, Anesthesia, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Infectious Disease and Emergency Medicine. 
 
Designed to train physicians for surgical practice in tropical, remote, and resource-limited settings around the globe, the Conference will provide hands-on experience in a wide range of emergent and essential surgical procedures. Organized and taught by surgeons with extensive global health experience, sessions will utilize tissue and model-based simulations to prepare participants to face common surgical scenarios in orthopedics, urology, obstetrics, gynecology, general surgery, anesthesia, ultrasound, and more. In addition, surgeons will be challenged to consider content useful for work in disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and areas of conflict.

Target Audience: The conference is designed for practicing physicians of all surgical specialties, as well as residents and fellows in training

Conference Capacity: The capacity of this conference is limited. Those unable to register due to limited capacity will be placed on a waitlist. 

Focus: The OB/GYN focus provides essential obstetrics and gynecology skills training.

Certificate of Completion: Participants who attend all sessions and pass the exam on the last day of the conference will be awarded a Certificate of Completion by Baylor College of Medicine National School of Tropical Medicine.

Refund and Activity Cancellation Policy: Written notification of a refund request must be received no later than Aug. 1, 2023. A $150 processing fee will be deducted from the registration fee paid to cover processing charges. Late requests will not be processed and no refunds will be given for those who are registered but do not attend. The activity director of this event reserves the right to cancel the conference if enrollment is deemed insufficient. Each registrant will be notified at the email address indicated on the registration form. In the case of activity cancellation, the planning committee’s liability is limited to the registration fee paid. Refunds will be made by original method of payment.

Accommodations

There are several hotels in close proximity to the conference location in the Texas Medical Center. Many hotels offer shuttles within a two-to-five mile radius. Transportation is also available through the light rail which has multiple stops at the TMC.

Participants are responsible for making their own hotel arrangements.
