The Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology carries out our research through funded research programs in virology and bacteriology.
Areas of interest include molecular virology, viral pathogenesis, viral oncology, viral gastroenteritis, respiratory viruses, HIV and AIDS, molecular genetics, vaccine development and evaluation, microbial genomics, antibiotic resistance, DNA topology, bacterial pathogenesis, and host responses to infection. See a list of our faculty and their area of interest.
Additionally, departmental faculty are investigating the human microbiome and analyzing its role in human health and disease.
We have a strong interest in Emerging Infectious Diseases and Biodefense, and we provide a summary of our research in these areas to serve as a resource to the general public.
Our faculty members serve as a base for information, collaboration, and technical expertise for colleagues and the public about viruses, bacteria, and infectious diseases. Departmental faculty members provide leadership in interdepartmental research centers at the College.
