DeBakey—an internationally recognized pioneer of modern medicine, visionary innovator, and humanitarian. Dr. DeBakey’s groundbreaking contributions to cardiovascular surgery and his dedication to education have shaped generations of surgeons worldwide.

This annual symposium highlights the academic achievements of the trainees in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery.
Essential Surgery Skills Course
August 2027
The course provides a six-day skills conference leading to certification in Tropical Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology. Physicians train to provide emergent surgical care in low surgeon-density, humanitarian and disaster contexts. They also network and collaborate with physicians dedicated to improving access to surgical and anesthetic services worldwide.
