Cardiothoracic surgery, including aortic and cardiac surgery, is continuously changing and developing, with new understandings of pathology evolving into new modalities for treatment and innovative treatment approaches.
There is an imperative need for both surgeons and surgical team members dealing with cardiothoracic diseases to be updated on an ongoing basis on the etiology, functional abnormalities, disease processes, and both state-of-the-art open and endovascular therapies in a broad range of areas. These include procedures and methods to treat diseases of the aorta, heart, lungs, esophagus, and transplantation of the heart as well as the use of ventricular assist devices.
