Graduates of foreign medical schools, with the exception of any Canadian medical school, must obtain Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.

Basis of Selection
Baylor College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education programs shall choose house officers based on criteria which are not influenced by race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status or sexual orientation, but shall be based upon such factors as preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, motivation and integrity. The evaluation of these qualifications shall be determined by each program individually. Applicants are instructed to contact the program to which they are applying to gain specific information about match processes (if applicable) and application submission dates.
International Medical Graduates
International Medical Graduates are welcomed and encouraged to apply to Baylor College of Medicine residency programs. All IMG's must be able to secure an appropriate visa and permit from the Texas Medical Board. The types of visas sponsored varies by department, so please check with the specific program to which you are applying to verify which visa types will be sponsored by which programs.
All Non-U.S. citizens (including permanent residents/green card holders, pending immigrants, and non-immigrant visa holders) must contact the BCM International Services Offices and communicate with one of the ISO representatives to verify your immigration status by emailing InternationalServicesTeam@bcm.edu
Requirements
All residents and fellows (U.S. and international medical graduates) are required to secure a Texas Medical Board Physician-in-Training Permit or a full Texas Medical License. Those trainees that hold a full Texas Medical License are also required to obtain their own DPS.
BCM residents and fellows are also required to have ACLS, PALS, or ATLS certification (depending on their specialty). This certification must be American Heart Association certified.
As part of the Baylor credentialing process, residents and fellows are subject to a criminal background check.
