Message From the Chair
Welcome to the H. Ben Taub Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine! We strive to be globally recognized for transformative patient-centered care, innovative research, and the development of the next generation of leaders in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Since the inception of the Department in 1954, we serve people with physical and cognitive disabilities to maximize their function and quality of life.

Our faculty oversees comprehensive clinical practices in multiple locations including Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, BSLMC-McNair Campus, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, Harris Health System, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, and TIRR Memorial Hermann.
In affiliation with these hospitals, we provide outstanding educational programs including a residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and several fellowship programs such as Brain Injury Medicine, Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, Spinal Cord Medicine, and Clinical Neuropsychology. The Department provides a dynamic, comprehensive experience for medical students and other learners and offers continuing medical education and grand rounds. We have hosted a well-recognized annual Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation comprehensive review course since 1967.
Research is vital to our growth and spirit of innovation. In 2018, the Department ranked #23 in NIH funding and has been as high as #1 in previous years. Our faculty and staff are working together to increase our commitment and investment in research.
