Physical Therapy for Sports and Orthopedic Injuries

Following an injury, return to full function often takes a team. At Baylor Medicine, our physical therapists work onsite with physicians so patients receive comprehensive care. Our physical therapists have extensive experience in both non-operative and surgical musculoskeletal injuries of the upper extremity, lower extremity, and spine. In therapy, patients will work to reduce pain/effusion and restore deficits in range of motion, gait, strength, and balance to allow full return to sport/function.

Give us a call

Call us at 713–986–7325 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday to book an appointment with one of our physical therapists.

For non-urgent matters request an appointment with one of our physical therapists using the online form. (Select specialists and Sports Medicine from the drop-down.)

Treatments and Therapies

Baylor Medicine physical therapists are board-certified as orthopedic and sports specialists, assuring patients that they will be cared for by clinicians who excel in their chosen field and have a passion for what they do. We offer the latest treatments and therapeutic advances which include:

Mobilization and manipulation of joints to decrease pain and improve motion.

A neurophysiological evidence-based treatment technique using solid filiform needles (acupuncture needles) for the treatment of muscle pain. Dry needling requires effective manual assessment of the neuromuscular system. Research supports that dry needling improves pain control, reduces muscle tension, normalizes biochemical and electrical dysfunction of motor end plates, and facilitates an accelerated return to activity. Physical therapists at Baylor are well trained to utilize dry needling in conjunction with manual physical therapy interventions.

A six-week jump program proven to reduce ACL injuries in females and a must to complete in order to return to sport with confidence.

An anti-gravity treadmill that unweights a user through "differential air pressure,” a technology developed by NASA. It is used for rehabilitating the lower extremity following injury or surgery, aerobic conditioning, weight control, gait training for neurological conditions and strengthening and conditioning the elderly.

Devices used to help assist with range of motion following surgery.

A suspension trainer that utilizes one’s own body weight to improve strength, flexibility, and balance.

This remarkable procedure allows us to detect and treat areas of “scar tissue” or adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments that can reduce our range of motion and cause pain.

In the healing process, our body attempts to repair those areas by creating “scar tissue,” much like the scar that forms on the skin when you have scraped or banged your knee. Learn more

Orthopedic and Sports Therapy at Kirby Glen

In early 2024, Baylor Medicine Orthopedics and Sports Medicine expanded its physical therapy services by opening its newest community location at Kirby Glen. With more than 7,000 square feet, this space includes turf, an AlterG Anti-gravity treadmill and ample space to accommodate patients of all specialties.

Baylor Medicine PT at Home

At Baylor Medicine, our physical therapists provide in-home, outpatient physical therapy so you can start recovery sooner with convenient, 1:1 hands-on care. Through our collaboration with Luna, patients across Greater Houston can receive personalized treatment at home from licensed therapists, with continuity of care and easy communication between visits.

Give us a call

Call 713-897-8326 between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., seven days a week to book an appointment.

  • 1:1 personalized treatments (45–55 minutes). Focused, hands-on visits targeting pain, mobility, strength, balance, and function.
  • Necessary equipment comes to you. Your therapist brings a treatment table and a mobile kit; 90% of cases don’t require heavy machines.
  • Same therapist, better continuity. Patients are matched to a local therapist based on specialty, geography, and schedule; you’ll work with the same therapist for your plan of care, with secure messaging between visits.
  • Outpatient care at home (not home health). PT at Home is in home, outpatient therapy; patients do not need to be homebound.

  • Busy professionals and parents; post-surgical patients; those at risk of falls; kids 10+; and anyone who finds travel to a clinic difficult.

Our therapists tailor care to your goals and environment, prioritizing safety and function at home:

  • Manual therapy and therapeutic exercise (mobility, strength, flexibility)
  • Gait training and balance/vestibular strategies for fall prevention
  • Post-operative rehabilitation protocols coordinated with your Baylor Medicine clinicians
  • Activity modification, home setup guidance, and progressive return to function plans

  1. Schedule an appointment — online or by phone; there is no waiting list to start treatment.
  2. Get matched with a therapist — by specialty, geography, and schedule.
  3. Receive care at home — licensed therapists deliver in-person, outpatient PT at your convenience.
