Division of Community Engagement
Consistent with Baylor College of Medicine's mission, vision, and values, the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences recognizes the importance of improving mental and physical health outcomes for all people.
The department is committed to incorporating community engagement, into its' missions of developing and engaging in world-class research, top quality training, and educating future leaders in the fields of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, while also providing exceptional clinical care in multiple settings throughout the city of Houston and Harris County. We will continue to work to engage and partner with our community members to improve access and outcomes related to mental health.
This work is ongoing, and we are trying to move in the right direction as individuals, a department, an institution, and a community.

Community Engagement Committee Vision Statement
The Vision of the Community Engagement Committee is to constantly move the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Baylor College of Medicine toward steps to actively engage and partner with the community to improve mental health outcomes for all members of the community. This will further the department’s missions to provide compassionate and exceptional clinical care, advance clinical research, and generate educational and training opportunities that prepare our next generation of providers for prominent positions nationally and internationally. As well as try to move the department, college, city, region, and state toward the best possible mental health access and outcomes

Our Mission Based Initiatives
Here are some of the community engagement initiatives that the department and its affiliates have been engaged in:
- PROPS = Subcommittee of residency program at Menninger Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences
- Trauma informed Training for Project Row Houses
- Trauma informed Training for Choosetodoinc
- Psychoeducation about mental health for Project Row Houses
- Mental Health Resources and Psychoeducation at Various Health Fairs throughout the Houston Area
- Participation in Ibn Sina Foundation Muslim Mental Health Conference for Community Leaders, May 2022
- Bridge up Menninger initiative to improve mental health and well-being of vulnerable adolescents in the Houston Area
