Hello and welcome! My name is Mauro A. Garcia-Altieri, M.D., and I am the training director for the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship. I have been a part of Baylor College of Medicine for almost a decade, and I certainly enjoy and thrive in the wonderful atmosphere and culture of the Department. The CLP fellowship is relatively young, and its inception stems from the profound and dynamic setting that is the Texas Medical Center and the enthusiasm of our exceptional team members, including our faculty, administrative staff, and trainees.
Our 12-month training experience is divided into two, six-month rotations:
- Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (75%)
- Texas Children’s Hospital – Pavilion for Women (25%)
Our fellows benefit from dynamic and diverse patient populations, exposing them to a spectrum of diagnosis, settings, models of care and treatment interventions-modalities.
As a non-native Texan, I have found it exciting to live in the fourth largest city in the country and the most diverse one. Distinguished for its vibrant food scene, as well as a nationally renowned theater district (home to top 5 award-winning companies like the Houston Grand Opera and the Houston Ballet, among others), the museum district and all the festivals. We have major sports including the multi–World Series-winning Astros, the Texans, the Rockets, and the Dynamos. Training at BCM allows flexibility for you to relax, explore the city, and even take weekend trips to Galveston Beach (a short 45-minute away from the city) or connect through its two major hubs international airports.
