Our fellows come from diverse interests and backgrounds. They were drawn to training in psychiatry and the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences for many different reasons. A few of our fellows share their love of Baylor and what they enjoyed about the program.
Grace Vallejo, M.D. (2025 Graduate)
My name is Grace Vallejo, a proud Colombian-American born in Queens, New York who has always been driven by a passion for understanding the human experience. With a strong foundation in biology and psychology from Syracuse University, I pursued my medical degree at Ross Medical School and completed my residency in general psychiatry at Jamaica Hospital. Now, as a fellow in child and adolescent psychiatry at Baylor College, I'm thrilled to be living in Houston and embracing the opportunities that this new chapter has brought.
As I continue my journey as a psychiatrist, I'm excited to work with diverse populations and make a meaningful impact in the field of community psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and cultural psychiatry. I am committed to providing high-quality care to underserved communities and bridging the gap between patients' needs and available resources. As Administrative Chief of my fellowship program in my second year, I'm looking forward to leading by example and empowering my peers to do the same.
Bekir Berker Artukoglu, M.D. (2025 Graduate)
Hello and Merhaba! I am originally from Istanbul/Turkiye and am passionate about child psychiatry. My scholarly interests include tic disorders/OCD, cultural psychiatry and displaced children’s mental health, and intensive levels of care to mitigate the national youth mental health crisis.
Nusrat Uddin, D.O. (2025 Graduate)
Hello, my name is Nusrat Uddin and I am excited to start my final stage of training here at BCM. I was born and raised in Pearland, TX, and am happy to have returned to my hometown. I completed medical school at William Carey University and started psychiatry residency at the University of Texas at Tyler, prior to fast-tracking into CAP Fellowship. As the incoming Wellness Chief, I hope to support the needs of the fellows and program as a whole, to make it a good learning environment. Within this field, I am interested in trauma and anxiety disorders, therapeutic alliance, reproductive mental health, and neuromodulation.
Dr. Bilal Qureshi, D.O.
My name is Bilal. I was born in Pakistan but was one month old when we came to the United States. My parents and sister are pediatricians, so working with children must be in my blood. I have been interested in psychiatry since my first exposure to developmental psychology during my undergraduate studies in Buffalo, NY. Mental health and human behavior have not ceased to captivate me ever since, and I am honored to be a part of the world of psychiatry.
As a CAP fellow, I am undoubtedly interested in helping our children who all share a lack of control over their circumstances. I was privileged to run group therapy sessions at a crisis stabilization unit once a week during my third year of general psychiatry training at Mississippi State Hospital; this became my favorite experience during residency. Beyond this, I am interested in the budding potential of psychedelics in the treatment of refractory illnesses. No words generated by my personal lexicon, nor that of ChatGPT, could express the magnitude of my gratitude to the team at Baylor, and I am excited for the next journey in my training.
Dr. Swetha Kondaveeti, M.D.
Hi, I’m Swetha! I grew up in Lexington, KY. I went to St. George’s University in Grenada for medical school and then matched at Central Michigan University for general psychiatry residency.
I am super excited to start the CAP fellowship at Baylor and am particularly interested in working with the adolescent population. I also have interests in the LGBTQIA+ population as well as cultural psychiatry and how we can overcome stigma.
