T32 Training Program in Cardiovascular Research and Drug Discovery

The Baylor College of Medicine Research Training Program in Cardiovascular Research and Drug Development is designed to prepare Ph.D. students for a research career in cardiovascular research in academia or the pharmaceutical industry.

Funded by a T32 grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), our program is led by program directors Xander Wehrens, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute, and Damian Young, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Drug Development.

The program provides salary and educational support to six trainees per year, for two years each. Predoctoral trainees accepted into the program will engage in a mentored research project which will be complemented by a set of core program activities and course work, professional development activities, and mentorship skills training.

All T32 faculty mentors have active research programs supported by extramural funding and have a strong commitment to training the next generation of cardiovascular scientists and developers of new therapeutic modalities.

Recipients will receive fellowship support, a travel supplement to attend scientific meetings, and up to $2,500 childcare reimbursement.

Eligibility:
• Predoctoral trainees (PhD students) who have a project related to cardiovascular research and/or drug development, consistent with the mission of the NHLBI.
• Applicants must have completed their first year within the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) at the time of appointment.
• Citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States, or those lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
• Priority is given to applications who have been accepted into a lab led by a T32 program faculty. Other trainee-mentor pairs may apply to the program and will also be considered.

How to apply:
Please email the program administrator (cvri@bcm.edu) for detailed application instructions.
