Professional Statement

My research is focused on the genetics of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. The goal is to understand how rare and common genetic variation alters metabolic pathways and determines an individual’s susceptibility to disease. Key areas of interest include the related pathologies of atherosclerosis, obesity, type II diabetes, and nonalcoholic liver disease. My laboratory uses a combination of gene targeting and viral vectors for gene delivery to investigate the physiology of lipid metabolism in model organisms, and identify potential new therapeutic targets.
