Baylor College of Medicine, located in the Texas Medical Center, is recognized as a premier academic health science center, known for excellence in education, research, and patient care. BCM has four schools: The School of Medicine, the National School of Tropical Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Health Professions. BCM has seven hospital affiliates, including the Harris Health System (Ben Taub Hospital, Thomas Street Health Center, and numerous community health centers), the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affair Medical Center, Baylor-St. Luke’s Medical Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital.
University of Texas Health Science Center
University of Texas Health Science Center is located in the Texas Medical Center, is a public institution comprised of six schools: The McGovern Medical School, the School of Public Health, the Cizik School of Nursing, the School of Biomedical Informatics, the MD Anderson UTHealth Graduate School, and the School of Dentistry. UTHealth is the most complex and comprehensive health sciences center in the University of Texas System, combining biomedical sciences, social sciences, and behavioral sciences in interdisciplinary approaches to healthcare issues. Major clinical affiliates include the Harris Health System (Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Thomas Street Health Center, and numerous community health centers), Memorial Hermann Hospital, and the UT Harris County Psychiatric Center.
Texas Biomedical Research Institute
Texas Biomedical Research Institute is a private research institute located on a 200-acre campus in San Antonio, Texas. It is home to the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC). It is primarily focused on infectious diseases, partnering with hundreds of researchers and institutions around the world, with expertise on HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis, malaria, hemorrhagic fever viruses, and parasitic infections. Investigators at Texas Biomedical Research Institute also study co-morbidities of infection with a focus on vulnerable populations, such as the very young and the elderly and those suffering from cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders.
