Precision Environmental Health Opportunities

Pre- and Post-Doctoral Fellows

The center provides training opportunities for pre- and post-doctoral fellows, M.D./Ph.D., residents and fellows. The CPEH is currently accepting trainees through the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Scientist Training Program, and the Baylor Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences graduate programs in Translational Biology and Molecular Medicine, Molecular and Human Genetics, and Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Researchers

Baylor College of Medicine researchers with a focus on environmental health and/or interests in epigenetics, epidemiology, development or model organisms can engage the center through membership in the CPEH.

Investigators from outside Baylor can also engage through membership in the Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health, a National Institute of Environmental Health Services National Center of Excellence in Environmental Health Science.

For inquiries regarding membership or participation in the CPEH or GC-CPEH, contact Laura Guillen at precisionhealth@bcm.edu or 713-798-2383.

Maternal and Infant Environmental Health Riskscape Research Center

Pilot Projects Funding

The Maternal And Infant Environmental Health Riskscape (MIEHR) Research Center, a joint initiative of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Southern University (TSU),  is a Center of Excellence on Environmental Health Disparities funded by the NIMHD, NIEHS and NICHD.  The MIEHR Research Center announces the availability of funds to support pilot studies focused on environmental health disparities.  Proposals are open to Baylor or TSU post-doctoral fellows, clinical fellows or junior faculty from health disparities populations.

The Pilot Projects are for one year (4/1/2021-3/31/2022) with no opportunity for extension (including no cost extensions) and with a budget not to exceed $50,000 in direct costs.  Three to five applications will be funded this cycle.  Applications must be multi-disciplinary and involve at least one mentor from a group of mentors at the MIEHR Center.  Collaboration between investigators from both Baylor and TSU is highly encouraged and will be regarded as a strength in the application.

Visit the MIEHR webpage for more information. Please note that a letter of intent is due by Oct. 21.

NIEHS P30 Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health (GC-CPEH)

Pilot Projects Funding

Funding opportunities for pilot projects are available through our NIEHS P30 Center – Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health (GC-CPEH).

The GC-CPEH, a joint initiative of Baylor College of Medicine, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health, announces the availability of funds to support pilot studies designed to promote precision Environmental Health Science (EHS) research at the intersection of genetics/epigenetics, environmental health, and data science to understand individual and place-based determinants of disease risk.  Proposals are open to all investigators from the supporting Institutions, who are eligible for federal funding, but should be compatible with GC-CPEH’s goals, and should document objectives consistent with environmental health research and/or environmentally-based community outreach and engagement.

The Pilot Projects are for one year with no opportunity for extension (including no cost extensions), and a budget not to exceed $40,000. Applications from junior investigators, those proposing the use of core facilities, and collaborative projects are especially encouraged. Involvement of a co-investigator from another institution(s) is permitted. An investigator may apply for only one award per grant round as PI or Co-PI.

Visit the GC-CPEH webpage to find more information about the application process.
