Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship

About the Program

The ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine is a training program where fellows will train in the Texas Medical Center at the sponsoring institution (Baylor College of Medicine) in Houston, Texas. Fellows will complete training in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of sports injuries and disorders, open surgical procedures, and operative arthroscopy.

Training occurs in the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center on the McNair Campus, Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center and the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. A publishable quality research project is required for program completion, and participation in a laboratory project is strongly encouraged.

Admissions and Benefits

Requirements for the fellowship:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Graduate from an approved ACGME-accredited orthopedic surgery residency program
  • Completed Fellowship Application through SF Match
  • Letter of reference from the residency program director
  • Physician licensure issued by the Texas Medical Board
  • A CPR certification (ACLS or ATLS)
  • DEA certification
  • NPI certification

Apply to this fellowship through the San Francisco Matching program. Universal or other application forms are not accepted. Only completed applications through the San Francisco Match are reviewed by the fellowship’s program director.

All applicants are requested to submit a valid e-mail address and contact telephone number on the SFMatch application.

The following documents must be submitted to be considered for a position in the fellowship:

  • Completed SF Match application including a passport-size photo
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement
  • Four letters of recommendation (one must be from the dean of the medical school that the candidate attended, or a copy of the candidate’s Medical School Performance Evaluation).
  • Medical school transcript and diploma
  • Copy of USMLE Scores (Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3)

This fellowship program only accepts J-1 visa sponsorship. Documents required of international applicants include: USMLE test results (steps I, II, and III), ECFMG Certificate (see details below), TOEFL or ECFMG English exam results, FLEX (if taken), a Dean's Certification Form (a BCM form), a Medical diploma and English translation reduced to an 8 ½ inch by 11-inch page notarized on the front of each page and containing the statement "notarized as a true copy of an original document." Also required is a transcript and English translation reduced to an 8 ½ inch by 11-inch page notarized on the front of each page and containing the statement "notarized as a true copy of an original document. " Other additional required documents include a Mark sheet & English translation reduced to an 8 ½ inch by 11-inch page notarized on the front of each page and containing the statement "notarized as a true copy of an original document," a valid ECFMG certificate and page notarized on the front of each page and containing the statement "notarized as a true copy of an original document" and a Visa questionnaire—all completed applications are reviewed.
