About the Program

Content

Baylor College of Medicine is a health sciences university that creates knowledge and applies science and discoveries to further education, healthcare and community service locally and globally.

The Inaugural summer internship program provides students the opportunity to enhance their personal development, as well as their understanding of Baylor and its affiliated clinical and academic partners. This internship will expose the intern to the administrative roles that support the clinical, research and education missions of the institution. Also, there will be weekly learning opportunities provided through speakers from different areas of Baylor.

Internship Preceptors

The Internship is sponsored by the Office of the President. Lorie Tabak, Chief of Staff, supports the program as the preceptor. Anju Bolton, Business Operations Associate, will manage the program. Together, they will be responsible for the education and development of the intern and provide supervision and guidance during the Internship. The internship supervisor will be assigned based on the area of the internship.

Application Process

Applying: The application will become available in December 2019 for both the Administrative Internship Program and Genetic Counseling Internship Program.

Interview Process: Each department will be responsible for conducting interviews and selecting candidates.

Deadline to apply: applications will be accepted for the Administrative Internship Program till all positions are full. The Genetics Internship deadline is March 31 at 11:59 p.m.

When will you know if selected? Each department is responsible for their selection so there is no set date as to when you will know if you have been selected, but more than likely you should hear something by end of April/beginning of May.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Administrative Internship Program

Content

This administrative internship program is open to rising high school seniors, college students and graduate students. Each department will contribute to the education and learning enhancement by developing goals and projects specific to the intern’s needs. The internship is not structured to provide opportunities to shadow clinical physicians or conduct research in a wet lab environment. Some of the departments that have previously hosted interns:

Genetic Counseling Internship Program

Content

To intern with the Baylor Genetics Counseling department please review the requirements below. There will be a small stipend paid out for this program only.

  • Must be an undergraduate student or have recently completed your undergraduate degree
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Completed college-level genetics course
  • Demonstrated interest in the field of genetics counseling

Last day to apply for the Genetics Internship Program will be at 11:59 p.m., March 31. No late applications will be accepted for this program. This deadline is only for Genetic Counseling internship.

The internship is unpaid and does not include housing. Selected participants are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation. There is a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Departments will pay for your parking during the duration of the internship.
