Welcome to Baylor College of Medicine

Your first day at Baylor College of Medicine will include new hire orientation. Make sure you bring the following items with you: 

Your First Day

A welcome and brief introduction to Baylor College of Medicine's history and place in the medical community.

All new employees start their first day of work by visiting Human Resources at:

New employees participate in self-guided orientation. Please plan two to three hours to for check-in.

Baylor College of Medicine is in the Texas Medical Center (TMC), a walkable neighborhood of Houston, Texas. Our campus is spread out over multiple buildings and offices in the TMC. On your first day, you will need to visit three of these buildings. We will provide you with instructions to navigate between the buildings. Parking is validated at your first stop, so remember to bring your chip into HR with you. However, if you choose to drive you will need to pay to park at the other sites.

Information for all non-U.S. citizens (including permanent residents/green card holders, pending immigrants, and non-immigrant visa-holders): Please contact the International Services Office prior to your start date to verify your immigration status and schedule an appointment for check-in.

Step 1: New Employee Check-In

Check in with Human Resources at the John P. McGovern Campus between the hours of 8-11 a.m. at the address below:

Please bring the yellow parking chip with you so that we may validate.

Submit to HR:

1. Form I-9 and present required employment authorizing identification.

2. Dependent Eligibility Verification Form and present dependent verification documents.

HR will Provide:

  • A road map and instructions to continue self-guided orientation
  • Benefits enrollment information
  • Computer log-in information, also referred to as Enterprise Computing Account (ECA)
  • Parking validation
  • Sticker ID badge for shuttle access and shuttle schedule

Step 2: Parking and Commuter Services

Walk upstairs to suite OW200, Parking and Commuter Services, to set up a parking account. If a parking account is not needed, take the shuttle or drive (you will have to pay to park) to our Main Campus to collect your new employee badge in step 3.

Please note check-in hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. and 2 – 4 p.m.

To arrange parking, you will need your department name and office location.

Parking will provide you with a Parking Card for TMC garages or remote surface lots, Van Pool, Metro Q-Card, garages or surface lots. Parking locations are subject to availability. To be eligible for a parking plan, you will need to be in a salaried full-time or part-time position.

Step 3: Photo ID Badge

Take the shuttle or drive (you will have to pay to park) to our Main Campus to collect your new employee badge at Baylor College of Medicine’s Main Campus at:

Check-In Hours: Monday through Friday, 8–11 a.m. and 12:30– 4 p.m.

Security will provide you with a ID Badge. You will need to present a picture ID when you arrive.

Step 4: Baylor Clinic/Occupational Health Program New Employee Evaluation & TB Skin Test

Take the shuttle or drive (you will have to pay to park) to Baylor Clinic.

OHP Check-In

Your visit with OHP will include: 

  • Placement of tuberculin skin test. Note: TB skin tests will not be placed on Thursdays; please report to OHP on Fridays
  • OHP new employee evaluation
  • Review of vaccination records (please have a copies available when you visit OHP)

Step 5: Online Trainings and Enrollments

Once you have completed the steps above, please report to your department and complete the following online trainings and enrollments.

1. Reset your password for computer access

Access the Internal link, Password Self-Service, and refer to the log-in Enterprise Computing Account (ECA) information, which is provided at HR check-in. Contact Office of Information Technology with any issues: 713-798-8737.

2. Online Orientation Training

Employees are to complete online orientation training within 10 days from your hire date. To access the trainings visit NetLearning and log-in with your username and password. Contact Office of Information Technology with any issues: 713-798-8737.

Complete the following trainings in your NetLearning To Do box:

  • BCM general orientation
  • Bloodborne pathogens training
  • Confidentiality agreement orientation
  • Employee relations orientation
  • Hazard communication and fire safety
  • HIPAA
  • Security orientation
  • Workers compensation orientation

3. Benefits Orientation

Access www.alexforbcm.com/2014 to learn more about benefits available to employees.

You can access Alex 24/7 but if you need assistance, please contact HR Benefits: 713-798-1500 or ask-insurance@bcm.edu for general questions and ask-retirement@bcm.edu for retirement questions.

Please note that you have 31 days from your hire date to elect benefits through Employee Self Services.

4. Submit Benefits Elections and New Employee Entries

Entries are made through Employee Self Service (ESS) and include:

  • Submitting Direct Deposit W4 Form. Contact Payroll if assistance is needed: 713-798-6932
  • Electing benefits. Contact Benefits if assistance is needed: 713-798-1500
  • Entering address changes. Contact Records if assistance is needed: 713-798-5564
