Drs. Mattox and Silberfein Join ACS Academy of Master Educators

Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox, distinguished service professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and chief of staff and surgeon-in-chief at Ben Taub Hospital, as well as Dr. Eric J. Silberfein, associate professor of surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology, associate program director for the General Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and chief of Surgical Oncology at Ben Taub Hospital, have been accepted as member and associate member, respectively, of the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Educators™. 

The Academy of Master Educators ™ is the new landmark program of the American College of Surgeons Division of Education. As stated on their website, the goals of the Academy include, “defining megatrends in surgical education and training; steering advances in the field; fostering innovation and collaboration; supporting faculty development and recognition; and underscoring the critical importance of surgical education and training in the changing milieu of health care.”

Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox has worked at Ben Taub Hospital since 1973, where he has been instrumental in developing the internationally renowned Ben Taub Hospital Emergency Center and Trauma Center. He currently serves on the Senior Physician Section Governing Council of the American Medical Association (AMA) and has published over 600 articles and several textbooks.

Item Definition

Dr. Silberfein is Cancer Liaison Physician for the Commission on Cancer arm of the American College of Surgeons and represents the Association of American Medical Colleges as a member of the Council of Faculty and Academic Societies. He has published multiple papers in the peer-reviewed journal holds membership in several surgical and professional societies.
