Department Participating in Major Clinical Trial
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery has been named a participating site for a trial project called, “Anti-coagulation for New-Onset Post-Operative Atrial Fibrillation after CABG” (CTSN PACES Trial). Dr. Todd K. Rosengart is serving as site primary investigator and Dr. Ravi K. Ghanta is co-investigator.
The trial, which is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) CT Surgical Trials Network Research Group, is being led by Dr. Annetine Gelijns from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. SIRB Coordination Support is being provided by Duke Clinical Research Institute as part of the Duke-Vanderbilt Trial Innovation Center (TIC). The primary objective for this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of adding oral anticoagulation to background antiplatelet therapy in patients who develop new onset, post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after isolated coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
