Cardiothoracic Team Earns Three Marfan Foundation Awards
Joseph S. Coselli, M.D., vice-chair, professor, and chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cullen Foundation Endowed Chair at Baylor College of Medicine, was given the Leader of Distinction Award from the Marfan Foundation at their 35th annual conference held in Houston, July 11-15, 2019. The award recognizes Dr. Coselli's years of immersive involvement and service to the foundation.
A long-time member of the professional advisory board of the Marfan Foundation, Coselli had previously received the Antoine Marfan Award (1997) for his outstanding contributions to the understanding and treatment of the disease.
"I am deeply honored and privileged to work with this amazing patient population, which includes those affected by Marfan syndrome and other connective tissue diseases. The foundation provides a unique resource for patients and healthcare professionals and supports ongoing research at many fine institutions," he said.
At the same conference, Alan Stolz, M.Ed., administrator for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, and Irina Volguina, M.D., Ph.D., senior project manager in the Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, were each given the Heart of the Matter Award for their support of the Aortic Valve Sparing Operative Outcomes Study and commitment to the Marfan syndrome and related conditions community
