Baylor College of Medicine hosted On the Frontline: 125 Years at the Forefront of Medicine, Science and Education yesterday at The Revaire, bringing together leaders in healthcare, alumni, supporters and friends to celebrate the institution’s historic milestone.

The luncheon highlighted Baylor’s legacy of medical firsts and its continued role in shaping the future of health through groundbreaking research, education and patient care. Guests enjoyed a panel discussion featuring Baylor President & CEO and Executive Dean, Dr. Paul Klotman, along with Baylor leaders, Dr. Hashem El-Serag, Dr. Gustavo Oderich and Dr. Joseph Rogers, who shared insights on Baylor’s modern-day breakthroughs in big data, cardiovascular surgery and precision medicine.

“Having had the privilege of serving on Baylor’s Board of Trustees for many years, I’ve seen firsthand how this institution continues to grow and lead,” said Marc Shapiro, longtime board member and supporter, who attended the event. “Baylor has been home to countless medical marvels throughout its history, and it’s inspiring to witness how those breakthroughs are still happening today and shaping the future of healthcare.”

The program also featured the inspiring story of patient Theresa Blades, whose life was saved by the expertise of the Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine. Blades credited the researchers, physicians and nurses who developed and delivered the life-saving innovations that gave her more time with her husband and children. She and her family have since chosen to give back to Baylor in gratitude and support of future advances.

“Theresa’s story demonstrates how Baylor’s impact goes beyond discoveries – it changes lives,” Klotman said. “Our ability to respond to urgent needs and invest in bold ideas ensures that patients and families everywhere can experience the very best of modern medicine.”

The luncheon closed with a celebratory toast marking Baylor’s monumental 125th anniversary, honoring past achievements, current innovations and the promise to continue providing healthier tomorrows for patients and families everywhere.
