Evaluation of Post-Discharge Growth and Development of Infants Who Received Donor Human Milk Products in the NICU

Background
Human milk feeding is associated with substantial benefits to infants’ health and development, especially in premature infants. All infants with a birth weight ≤ 1250 grams are at risk for slow growth, metabolic abnormalities, and poor neurodevelopmental outcomes. Because these infants are at such high risk for poor growth and neurodevelopment, it is important to investigate the long-term outcome of an exclusive human milk protein diet. There are no published studies evaluating neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants receiving donor human milk products (including donor human milk derived fortifier and human milk cream supplement).

Primary Aim
To evaluate post-discharge growth and neurodevelopmental outcomes in infants ≤ 1250 grams birth weight receiving an exclusive human milk diet.
