Module 11: Maintaining Progress

Content

Welcome to the eleventh module of LUNA! You have now completed most of the LUNA program! We hope you feel like your hard work and commitment have begun to pay off.

In this module, we will give you a moment to pause and reflect on your journey. This module will also be shorter than most. We hope this gives you and your child some extra time to revisit any past modules or concepts you feel like reviewing. If your child has a lot of extra time, encourage them to spend it on their plan of action!

Things to Remember

Just like with the other supplemental modules, if you and your child feel that this module is not relevant for you, then feel free to move on to a different one. We want you to get the most out of LUNA, so please work on the supplemental modules (modules 8 through 11) as you see fit! Be sure to discuss this with your child, as it is important that you both read the same modules each week.

Take a Deep Breath... and Reflect

By this point, your child has probably been working on their plan of action (or maybe a few different plans) for a couple weeks. Now, we would like you and your child to take a moment to reflect on this progress.

Think about how your child’s plan of action practice has gone so far using the questions below. Your child will also have their own reflection worksheet with questions to complete. It may be helpful for you to review your child’s worksheet as well and discuss their answers with them.

Reflect on Your Progress

Take some time to think back on how things were when your child started LUNA and how things are now using the questions below:

  1. What has gone well for you so far and what has been challenging?
  2. Has your child made progress on their goals or achieved them?
  3. Has anything gone differently than you expected (for you or your child)?
  4. What strategies have you used to encourage your child, and how have they worked?
  5. What is your child able to do now that they couldn’t do at the beginning of LUNA?

Maintaining Progress

For the rest of this week, and for all your remaining weeks in LUNA, focus on helping your child get the most out of their exposure activity practices. Your child should continue working on their current plans and practicing the skills they have learned. Ask your child which tools and lessons have been the most helpful for them so far and remind them to keep using these tools.

Then, ask yourself which skills and lessons have been the most helpful for you so far as a parent. This week may be a perfect time to revisit any past modules that were particularly helpful for you or your child- or ones that were particularly confusing.

Remember, your child should aim to make some progress on their plan of action every week. For each new week, you and your child should create a new schedule using the Weekly Practice Plan worksheet. You can create this schedule based on a new plan of action, or you can continue working on the same plan from the previous week(s) if you would like. If needed, you can always re-read Module 4 to create a new plan.
