Multifaceted Intervention to Restore Resilience and Overcome Risk (MIRROR) (H-51134)
Description
Female military service members are at risk of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) as well as relationship-based trauma, such as, Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). These risks may continue as the female transitions out of the military and into Veteran status. We would like to understand and compare either psychoeducation or emotion regulation skills, followed by 5 sessions of in-vivo (in real-time) exposure therapy for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
(PTSD) related to MST or IPV and brain injury. These experiences can have lasting impact on physical and mental health, present-day relationships, and quality of life. Based on these impacts, this study seeks to identify effective treatments to build on resilience and reduce future risks. Eligible participants will screen positive for exposure to MST and/or IPV, have a history of at least one BI, sub-threshold PTSD, and documented emotional dysregulation. Participants will later be randomly assigned to one of two groups (emotion regulation skills and exposure therapy OR psychoeducation and exposure therapy).
