The Learning Community Advisor Program are networks of clinical faculty advisors for medical students. Advisors follow a cohort of students longitudinally beginning in the first-year through the final year, which culminates in the awarding of the Doctor of Medicine degree.
Houston Campus
The Houston campus is made up of six Squads of 32 students per year or 128 students total. Within the squads there are PRN groups of 8 students that serve a micro community. The PRN groups have a Learning Community Advisor and 2 PRN parents, which are 2 students from the class ahead of them. These mentors work to help establish a strong social network, wellness and help advise students to reach their career goals. The Squad rooms are located on the third floor of the DeBakey Building.
Temple Campus
The Temple campus has five squads (or PRN groups) of eight students per year and 32 students total. Each squad has a Learning Community Advisor and two PRN parents. The squad rooms are located on the second floor of the Medical Education Building in Temple.
LCA Program Structure
All students receive individual academic and professional guidance through one-on-one sessions with advisors twice a year throughout medical school. These meetings provide an opportunity to shape and review individualized education plans and discussion of personal and professional challenges and goals. As students progress in their education and identify their desired specialty, advisors help to identify other Baylor faculty members, who can provide focused mentorship, which helps students progress toward their career goals.
