M.D. Program Admissions FAQs

Statistics

Can you provide the entire enrollment statistics for the School of Medicine?
The registrar is the keeper of enrollment statistics. View the latest statistics. The 10-year enrollment statistics are also available.

Applications

Applicants for the 2026 admissions cycle, please be advised that Baylor's M.D. program will be using the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS). Applicants to the M.D./Ph.D. program will continue to use the AMCAS.

What constitutes a ‘complete’ Baylor application?
The Admissions Committee will not review an applicant’s file until the following are received: verified TMDSAS application, Baylor supplemental application and fee, letters of evaluation, MCAT scores and Casper scores.

Where can I locate information on your MCAT and GPA requirements?
At Baylor College of Medicine, we do not have a GPA or MCAT minimum requirement to apply. To view the median and range of scores for the entering class, visit the AAMC's MSAR.

Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics (CASPer) Test

Is CASPer a requirement for the M.D. program?
Yes, all applicants to the Medical School, including the Medical Scientist Training Program, are required to complete an online situational judgement test called CASPer (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics). CASPer complements other tools used for applicant screening that assesses noncognitive skills and interpersonal characteristics that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program.

What dates are available for CASPer testing? How do I register?
Available testing dates and registration can be accessed on the CASPer website.

When is the last date to take the CASPer exam for distribution to BCM?
The final opportunity to complete the CASPer exam for distribution to BCM is Sept. 16, 2025. Transmission of exam scores can typically take up to two weeks.

Coursework

What are the prerequisite courses that I need to take for the M.D. program?
View the Admissions Requirements page.

Do you accept AP, IB, CLEP or Dual Credit?
We highly recommend that you take additional upper-level courses in the areas in which credit for introductory level courses was given. We do not accept AP, IB, CLEP or Dual Credit for Baylor's required coursework.

Do you accept online coursework?
If credits for online coursework appear on your transcript from a U.S. accredited undergraduate institution, Baylor College of Medicine accepts them. We now accept online credits for the required courses; this change occurred in 2019.

Does Baylor College of Medicine accept prerequisite courses older than 10 years?
All prerequisite courses must be taken within 10 years prior to applying to the M.D. program.

MCAT Information

What is the oldest MCAT score you accept for the 2025 entering class? Acceptable dates of MCAT: September 2022 - Sept. 9, 2025.

If I take the MCAT exam more than once, which test score will the Admissions Committee will review?
The Admissions Committee will accept/review the most recent test scores.

Supplemental Application

When can I access the Baylor supplemental application?
June 1 is when the supplemental application will be open. A Baylor College of Medicine Supplemental Application is required of all applicants. Applicants will receive an email invitation to complete the supplemental application after submission and verification of their TMDSAS primary  application. TMDSAS application verification can take two-four weeks.

When is the deadline to submit the supplemental application? Nov. 1 (at 5 p.m. CST) is the deadline to submit your Baylor supplemental application for the regular M.D. program. For M.D./Ph.D. applicants, the deadline is Oct. 1. The $100 fee is non-refundable.

Letters of Evaluation

How many Letters of Evaluation can I send?
Three individual letters or one health professions committee packet are required. Baylor College of Medicine will accept four individual letters at the most. We prefer quality in-depth letters from people who know you well, rather than giving preference to the number of letters received.

Baylor’s M.D. program participates in the TMDSAS Letter of Evaluation service. All letters must be processed through TMDSAS. Please do not send letters of evaluation directly to our email account as they will not be considered in your application.

May I send more letters?
Additional letters may be sent; however, we cannot guarantee that the Admissions Committee will review more than four letters. Additional letters will not give you an advantage over the required three letters.

Academic Advising/Counseling

I would like to speak to a Baylor College of Medicine academic advisor/counselor.
Baylor College of Medicine does not provide advising services. Please reach out to your current institution’s pre-med or pre-health advising office for its feedback on your application. If you do not have an advisor, please reach out to the Texas Health Education Service (THES), which offers complimentary advising.

Baylor College of Medicine does not provide advising to applicants who were not successful in gaining admission to our medical school. THES offers great resources for building a stronger application for re-applicants.

Does one undergraduate degree or institution hold more “weight” with the admissions committee than another?
No.

When and where do I send in my final official transcript(s) from my undergraduate institution(s)?
Do not send your official transcript(s) to the Office of Admissions. If you are offered an acceptance to Baylor College of Medicine, we will provide instructions on when and where to send your final official transcript(s). Instructions will also be listed on the acknowledgement form provided at notice of acceptance.

Veteran Affairs

Does BCM offer education benefits to active duty service members, veterans and their eligible dependents and spouses?
Yes, please visit the Registrar's website for more information.

Waitlist Information

What is Baylor College of Medicine's waitlist process?
Interviewed applicants who do not Match to BCM through the TMDSAS Match and are not withdrawn via TMDSAS Match, are automatically placed on the waitlist. The applicant pool varies each year and we cannot predict exactly how many candidates will be offered admission from the waitlist. The committee evaluates a host of criteria for admission as we develop our class each year; we do not rank candidates on the waitlist. As such, it is impossible for the committee to determine an individual applicant's chances for admission.

I am currently on the waitlist at Baylor College of Medicine. Would it be possible to meet with a dean of admissions to update them on recent “events” in which I have participated?
Unfortunately, the deans of admissions are unable to meet with applicants on the waitlist. You can submit updates to your application through our AMP application system.

Texas Residency

For applicants to the M.D. program, TMDSAS will determine state residency. When you submit your TMDSAS application, the system makes an initial residency determination. When processing, a residency specialist will review the application in greater detail to either confirm or change the system’s residency determination according to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board rules for establishing residency.

Visit the TMDSAS residency website for additional information regarding residency determination. All residency inquiries should be directed to TMDSAS.

Does Baylor College of Medicine give preference to Texas residents?
The admissions committee uses the same criteria to evaluate applicants whether they are in-state or out-of-state residents. View the most recent enrollment statistics.

Application Updates

May I send updates to my application?
Yes, if you have not received an invitation to interview at Baylor then you can send updates through the application system. If or when you receive an invitation to interview, updates to your application will not be accepted. Those who have interviewed may send "letters of intent" through the application system, but not updates to their application.

BCM Merit Scholarships

Does BCM award merit scholarships?
All applicants accepted to BCM are considered for merit scholarship awards. There is no specific date for a decision to be made and an award can be made after the TMDSAS Match. The selection criteria include outstanding academic performance and achievement, a broad range of intellectual interests, demonstrated leadership, commitment to interests other than academic work, and unique life experiences that may contribute to a medical career. The Scholarship Committee does not match merit award offers from other schools.

Transfer Students

Does Baylor College of Medicine accept transfer students from U.S. or non-U.S. medical schools?
We do not accept transfer students to Baylor College of Medicine. See the Admissions policy page.

International Applicants

Does the School of Medicine accept International students?
The M.D. program does not accept international students. The MSTP (M.D./Ph.D.) program does accept international students.

If a United States citizen completes their undergrad at a Canadian institution, do they meet the Baylor requirements?
Yes, Baylor considers Canadian degrees/college coursework to be equivalent to the U.S. undergraduate degrees/coursework.

I have a SpanTran transcript; will Baylor College of Medicine accept the credits listed?
No. The School of Medicine requires 90 undergraduate credit hours from a fully accredited college or university in the United States.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Does Baylor College of Medicine accept DACA students?
At this time, Baylor College of Medicine does not accept DACA students.

Campus Selection

How does BCM determine campus assignments?
After acceptance into the Baylor College of Medicine M.D. program, all applicants will be emailed a personalized link to rank their campus preference. Campus assignments are determined by a computerized selection system with results redistributed based on campus capacity and to achieve a balanced campus. Assignment notifications begin in March. Assignments are not assured until a confirmation email has been sent from the Baylor College of Medicine Office of Admissions.

After being assigned to a campus, can I transfer?
Students will not be allowed to transfer from one campus to the other once starting the curriculum.

Campus Tours

Can someone provide me with a tour of Baylor College of Medicine's campus? If an applicant is selected for an interview, a virtual tour will be provided during the interview session. Other types of individual tours are currently unavailable but "Open Houses" will be hosted for interviewed applicants during the interview season. Dates and registration information will be provided to interviewed applicants during the interview season.

Take a tour of the TMC through several available options including:

  • Texas Medical Center (TMC) Tours
  • AIA TMC Walking Tours

A group of pre-med students would like to tour Baylor College of Medicine's campus. Can the Office of Admissions accommodate this request?
BCM is a closed campus. No group tours will provided at this time. "Open Houses" will be available to interview applicants during the interview season. Dates and registration information will be provided to those already-interviewed applicants.
