Baylor College of Medicine policies applying to the disclosure of information from student records are consistent with federal and state regulations. Applicants are not entitled to examine or inspect application materials received by Baylor, though Baylor may confirm receipt.
Background Checks for Applicants and Students
The School of Medicine requires a criminal background check prior to matriculation. The purpose of this policy is to protect property and to help ensure a safe environment for patients, employees, visitors, and the general public. Background checks will be performed only after the applicant has accepted an offer of admission to the School of Medicine. All offers of acceptance are contingent upon satisfactory results of a criminal background check.
Clery Act Notice of Annual Security Report
The Baylor College of Medicine Annual Security Report, produced in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act, are available via the link above. The security report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings owned or controlled by the University, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, timely warning of crimes, sexual assault and policies relating to personal safety at Baylor.
All Baylor medical students are required to comply with Baylor College of Medicine Occupational Health Program immunization requirements.

The MD degree is a broad undifferentiated degree attesting to general knowledge in medicine and the basic skills required for the practice of medicine. Essential abilities and characteristics required for completion of the MD degree consist of certain minimum physical and cognitive abilities and sufficient mental and emotional stability to assure that candidates for admission, promotion, and graduation are able to complete the entire course of study and participate fully in all aspects of medical training.
Transfer Credit and Advanced Standing Policy
BCM’s School of Medicine does not accept Transfer Applicants. The SOM does not make offers of admission with Advanced Standing, even to applicants who may have successfully completed courses for credit at other institutions’ medical schools and were not subject to dismissal or withdrawal.
Criminal Allegations, Arrests, and Convictions Policy
Baylor College of Medicine’s School of Medicine seeks to ensure that all incoming and current students in its programs that involve patient care or that lead to a role in a licensed profession meet both the high excellence and professionalism standards of BCM and the profession for which they are being trained. Students and trainees at BCM practice in confidential environments and bear responsibility for the health and safety of patients, which requires both ethical behavior and the exercise of sound judgment.
