The School of Medicine is guided by standards set by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, and the Baylor College of Medicine Technical Standards. The School of Medicine’s holistic review admissions process is a flexible, individualized way of assessing an applicant’s capabilities by which balanced consideration is given to experiences, attributes, and academic metrics and, when considered in combination, how the individual might contribute value as a medical student and physician.

The School of Medicine is cognizant of its responsibility to patients who will be part of the educational process and to future patients who will entrust their welfare and lives to medical school graduates. Therefore, we believe that candidates should be able to achieve certain basic functions in a reasonably independent manner as described by the Baylor College of Medicine Technical Standards which include:

Observation, Communication, Motor Intellectual-Conceptual, Integrative and Quantitative Abilities, Behavioral and Social Attributes, and Ethical Standards

Baylor and the School of Medicine are committed to providing equal educational access for qualified students with disabilities in accordance with state and federal laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended in 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Therefore, no candidate will be denied admission to the School of Medicine solely based on the presence of a disability.
