American Medical Women’s Association - Student Chapter

Item Definition

The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is an inclusive organization which functions at the local, national and international level to advance women in medicine and improve women's health. The AMWA achieves this by providing and developing leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring and strategic alliances. Our local Baylor chapter welcomes all individuals – regardless of gender – who are passionate about supporting women in medicine and addressing women’s health issues. We mentor undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in medicine and organize lectures and panels that explore the unique challenges that female physicians face across various careers within medicine. We also advocate for health issues that disproportionately affect women, such as breast and cervical cancer, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, prenatal care and sexual assault. We seek to create a vibrant community of future leaders in medicine. More information about the national organization’s values and activities can be found at https://www.amwa-doc.org/.
