The Baylor Genetics & Genomics faculty includes five members of the National Academy of Sciences, eight members of the National Academy of Medicine, nine fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, two Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigators and one Howard Hughes Medical Institute Faculty Scholar.
Dr. Shinya Yamamoto, associate professor of molecular and human genetics, received the Genetics Society of America Early Career Medal for his contributions to the field of genetics. He is recognized for pioneering the use of Drosophila to discover new human genes and variants responsible for rare genetic diseases, among other works. Yamamoto and other GSA awardees will be recognized with presentations at upcoming GSA Conferences. Read more.
Dr. Yamamoto has also been named a 2025 NISTEP Selection, an international honor awarded by Japan’s National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP). Dr. Yamamoto is the only U.S.-based researcher selected in the 2025 cohort.
