Applications are processed through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and The Plastic Surgery Common Application. The American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons Board reviewed the pilot study on the Plastic Surgery Common Application (PSCA) and has decided to recommend that all programs utilize the PSCA for the 2021-2021 application cycle. Further information on how to participate will be available and posted to the ACAPS website for both programs and applicants.
All applicants are expected to participate in the National Resident Matching Program. The Division of Plastic Surgery conducts one formal interview session each year, and three positions at the PGY-1 level are filled from a pool of approximately 200 applicants.
Graduates from U.S. medical schools should contact their Student Affairs or Dean's Office to apply through ERAS. Please refer to the American Association of Medical Colleges for more information on the ERAS program and the documentation required for application.
International graduates must meet the requirements of the Graduate Medical Education Office at Baylor College of Medicine, established by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the Immigration Services. They also should contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates for further information. Baylor College of Medicine requires international graduates to meet the terms for a physician-in-training, as outlined by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and have the documents necessary for a J-1 visa.
The Plastic Surgery Education Committee reviews complete residency applications. Only the leading 20 to 25 applicants who are among the top in academic excellence, USMLE scores, and research interests are invited for a personal interview.
The interview process is an important factor in the final selection, and also gives candidates the opportunity to visit Baylor College of Medicine and meet with the faculty and residents.
Due to the pandemic, all interviews will be virtual this year. For up-to-date information on how Baylor College of Medicine is responding to the pandemic, visit our Coronavirus website.
