Department of Pediatrics

The Baylor Affiliated Hospitals Residency Program provides the following benefits:

Professional meeting: Each house officer is provided the time and opportunity to attend a professional meeting every year. Residents in their Adult Neurology year may attend a local meeting, and second and third year Child Neurology residents may attend a five-day meeting within the United States. The time off provided for this activity is, of course, in addition to vacation time.

Free institutional permit: Although a Texas state medical license is not required for residency or fellowship training in Texas, those without a full medical license must obtain a Texas Physician In Training permit. The fee for training permits is reimbursed by the Department of Pediatrics.

Resident orientation, including:

Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Orientation lectures
Computer orientation
Hospital orientation

Social functions: A variety of other social functions, including a welcome party for new residents, holiday parties, and a house staff graduation banquet are hosted by the department. Additionally, the house staff themselves arrange a variety of social events throughout the year. These include sporting events and competitions as well as holiday parties.

Resident's lounge: Texas Children's Hospital provides a lounge for residents. Amenities include a large screen television, a DVD player, multiple computer work stations, a full kitchen and exercise equipment.
