About Us

The Section of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine is nationally and internationally recognized for its outstanding clinical and scientific research programs.

We provide comprehensive care in interventional cardiology, heart failure and cardiac transplantation, electrophysiology, preventive cardiology and general cardiology in three affiliated hospitals: Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center/Texas Heart Institute, Ben Taub Hospital, and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, as well as in a new state-of-the-art outpatient facility.

Ongoing research efforts in basic science, translational research and clinical trials/outcomes research are focused on developing novel therapeutic strategies that will lead to advances in the treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease.

Research

Our research activities cover a broad range of cardiovascular diseases and conditions, with a long tradition of excellence in basic, translational, and clinical research. The section is nationally recognized for programs of excellence in molecular cardiology, heart failure, cardiac imaging, and interventional cardiology.

Building on the College's legacy of cardiovascular research, the Cardiovascular Research Institute provides state-of-the-art medical care and performs groundbreaking research.

Education

Our faculty train tomorrow's cardiovascular medicine specialists through medical school, graduate student, resident and fellow programs. A fourth year of training is available for certification in cardiovascular subspecialties such as interventional cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. See our education offerings.

Healthcare

Our clinical faculty provide outstanding care at the Baylor Heart Clinic, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center/Texas Heart Institute, Ben Taub Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Hall-Garcia Cardiology Associates, covering the greater Houston area from the north (Humble) to the south (Clear Lake). Our comprehensive, integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease is further improved through the close proximity of disciplines and shared technology within Baylor Clinic and our affiliated institutions.
