Favorite Part of Living in Houston: Having family nearby is a huge blessing. I also love how diverse Houston is, you can experience cultures, cuisines, and communities from all over the world. I love the weather here, and yes, the summers are super-hot, but I actually enjoy the warm weather!
Favorite Part of EM Residency: I love being the first physician patients see when they come to the Emergency Department. Every shift brings something new, and I enjoy the breadth and acuity of EM. One of my favorite aspects of Baylor is how genuinely diverse and welcoming the program is. I've never felt out of place. From senior residents and attendings to consultants, everyone is genuinely invested in helping us learn and grow. Feedback is always constructive, and there's a real emphasis on supporting interns and setting us up for success.

Favorite Part of Living in Houston: The diversity and the food. Growing up in Miami, you can find just about any cuisine that you want to try. Houston is very similar, if not more diverse. I can’t wait to try new restaurants and experience different cultures. 
Favorite Part of EM Residency: Favorite part of EM residency so far has definitely been getting to know my co-interns and co-residents. We work hard together, but we also have so much fun outside of work. Building those friendships and sharing this experience with such a supportive group has made residency even more rewarding.

Favorite Part of Living in Houston: The variety! It's impossible to be bored here! There is always something to do, whether it is EDM run clubs, poetry night with a Studio Ghibli movie, a cooking class, or the various festivals. Go and Explore! There is something for everyone! 
Favorite Part of EM Residency: The family within this residency is nothing I have ever experienced! I've never felt such unwavering support and genuine kindness. They never make me feel inadequate and push me to keep going even when things get hard. I feel like no matter what residency throws at me, they will always have my back.

Favorite Part of Living in Houston: Houston is one of the biggest cities in the US (4th by population behind New York, LA, and Chicago), but it's waaayyyy more affordable to live in than most other big cities. Our housing costs are 20.2% below the national urban average in the US according to houston.org, whereas New York, LA, and Chicago are 411.3%, 135.4%, and 43.7% above this same national urban average, respectively. All that to say, it feels great to live in a big city without having to deal with big city prices!
Favorite Part of EM Residency: When I was first trying to figure out what type of doctor I wanted to be, an EM physician told me that “An EM textbook is just the first few chapters of all the other textbooks in medicine smushed together.” I knew I didn’t want to go through all of medical school just to forget 95% of everything I had learned and just to see a small subset of what medicine has to offer every single day for the rest of my career. EM captures so much of medicine, and such a wide variety of human experiences lead people to go to the ER, that I feel that choosing a career in EM really helps to give people a lot of variety across their career as a physician

Favorite Part of EM Residency: The people! Everyone is friendly and fun to hang out with and learn from. I also like how every day is something different. I enjoy getting to use skills and knowledge from various different medical disciplines to provide the best care I can for patients.

Favorite Part of Living in Houston: The culture and diversity.  I love living in a city with such a diverse population, dynamic energy, and a wide range of experiences. There’s always something fun to do – explore the art scene and museums, catch a professional sports game, check out a concert or festival, or try out awesome restaurants. No matter your interests, there’s always something happening.
Favorite Part of EM Residency: The culture, community and camaraderie. I'm grateful to be part of a team that is passionate about patient care, advocacy, and supporting one another. It’s also a privilege to care for Houston’s diverse patient population and underserved communities.

Favorite Part of Living in Houston: The abundance of choice! I love having every artist tour here, the amount of boba choices, the food scene (no city does it better for the price), the fact that you can find any cuisine at midnight, the weather in October, the way the medical center feels like its own city inside a city, and most importantly, the lovely, vibrant people of Houston! 
Favorite Part of EM Residency: Being the first hand a patient reaches for. Patients grant you access at their most unguarded, and that kind of immense trust doesn’t exist anywhere else in medicine. Emergency medicine is where human connection isn’t incidental to the treatment plan – it is the treatment plan.
