About the Breast Care Center
Experts in the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, part of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and benign breast disease.
Surgeons, reconstructive surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and genetic counselors work together in the clinic along with specially trained nurses and staff to provide comprehensive, compassionate care of women with breast disease and cancer.
We are one of only a few comprehensive breast care centers in the country focused exclusively on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast disease and breast cancer. Statistics show that patients who go to comprehensive breast centers have improved outcomes and greater likelihood of survival compared to those who seek treatment elsewhere.
The Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center also includes a breast cancer research program, which enables us to quickly translate the latest research findings into improved treatment for our patients, and an academic teaching unit.
Ben Taub Breast Oncology Clinic
In the Smith Breast Center's primary care center we have also established a breast cancer clinic and risk assessment/prevention clinic at Ben Taub Hospital, organized and staffed by physicians from the Breast Care Center. The clinic has been established in an attempt to provide similarly excellent care to more under served women in the Houston area. In addition to this, approximately 2,000 patients per year are evaluated and treated for breast disease and breast cancer at Ben Taub by Breast Center staff.
