Nikki Bisarya

Nikki Bisarya, M.D.

Hometown: San Diego, CA
Undergraduate: University of Southern California
Medical School: University of California, Los Angeles
Why Baylor: I came to Baylor for its unmatched clinical and surgical training and strong emphasis on academic growth. Training in the largest medical center in the world offers unparalleled opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. I was also drawn to the program’s commitment to mentorship, innovation, and service, which aligns with my goals of integrating technology into ophthalmic care and advancing health equity. I knew I would be challenged here while being supported by faculty who are not only leaders in the field but also deeply invested in resident development.
Outside Interests: Running, guitar, tennis, reading, and spending time with my friends and family.

James Lai

James Lai, M.D.

Hometown: Singapore
Undergraduate: University of Miami
Medical School: University of Miami
Why Baylor: Given its integration within the largest health system in the US, I knew I would have unparalleled clinical training with exposure to diverse pathology at this program. Coupled with the extensive surgical exposure and incredible mentorship from leaders all throughout the field, Baylor offered everything I sought and more when seeking the next destination for my training.
Outside Interests: Golf, Soccer, Violin

Alaa Malik

Alaa Malik, M.D.

Hometown: New Orleans, LA
Undergraduate: Tulane University, New Orleans, LA
Medical School: Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans, LA
Why Baylor: I chose Baylor because it offered everything I was looking for in a program: unparalleled clinical and surgical training, high volume, and dedicated mentors who are leaders in the field. I was also drawn to the opportunity to serve a patient population in the largest medical center in the country. Additionally, every interaction I had with residents and faculty from interview day to the second look confirmed that Baylor would provide me with exceptional training in a welcoming and supportive environment. To top it off, Houston has a great food scene!
Outside Interests: Distance running, DIY projects, baking, spending time with family, crocheting

Zeid Nawas

Zeid Nawas, M.D.

Hometown: Amman, Jordan
Undergraduate: University of Washington, Seattle, WA
Medical School: Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, TX
Why Baylor: I wanted a program that would challenge me, provide strong mentorship, and ultimately shape me into a well-rounded, confident physician and surgeon. Baylor delivers exactly that. With renowned faculty in every subspecialty, exceptional surgical training, and exposure to a vast range of pathology, it’s the kind of environment that molds residents into leaders. The program’s emphasis on innovation, research, and clinical excellence, set in the heart of the largest medical center in the world, makes it an unbeatable place to train!
Outside Interests: Watching Formula 1, baking, working out, and spending time with family.

Arina Nisanova

Arina Nisanova, M.D.

Hometown: Moscow, Russia and Los Angeles, CA
Undergraduate: UCLA
Medical School: UC Davis
Why Baylor: I chose Baylor for its exceptional surgical training, exposure to diverse pathology, and the opportunity to train in the largest medical center in the world. I was especially drawn to the program’s high volume and the chance to gain broad experience in ocular oncology. I also value Baylor for its environment that encourages early autonomy while providing the right amount of guidance and mentorship—a program where I know I will be challenged, supported, and pushed to grow into the best clinician, surgeon, and academic I can be. Outside of work, I’m looking forward to exploring Houston’s museums, parks, and vibrant food scene.
Outside interests: traveling, tennis, spending time with friends and family, classical music concerts, ballet and rhythmic gymnastics, backgammon

Jullian Valadez

Jullian Valadez, M.D.

Hometown: Houston, Texas
Undergraduate: Trinity University
Medical School: Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
Why Baylor: Growing up in Houston, it has always been my goal to one day serve my own community. Many of the core hospitals that Baylor partners with has served me and my family in some way (Ben Taub, VA, TCH, and Houston Methodist). I love the idea of working in the largest medical center in the world, while also being just a short drive away from my family that raised and supported me to this point. I am really inspired by the culture, autonomy, and leadership that Baylor fosters throughout each of its programs- and cannot wait to join the alumni network that served my community in Houston!
Outside Interests: Video games, sports, debate, fishing, comic books and their movies, terrariums, and hanging out with family
