Our core mission is to enrich the professional and personal development of faculty, advocating for a high-quality, learning-focused workforce prepared for a dynamic healthcare environment.
Our Priorities
The Vice Chair Group for Faculty Development Group’s priorities are based on four overlapping pillars.
- Professional development: Seize opportunities for professional and personal development
- Pathways to promotion: Recognize the different pathways for promotion
- Mentoring: Build effective mentor-mentee and peer-to-peer mentoring relationships
- Wellness: Minimize burnout and improve overall wellness
Assists all Department of Medicine personnel in how to seize opportunities for professional and personal development.
- Professional Development Series (in conjunction with IQuESt): Monthly 1-hour seminars addressing diverse topics based on existing material from Learning GPS (Grow, Perform, Succeed)
- Monitor ongoing BCM-wide activities and alert DOM members to them (e.g., advertise in the Good News Monday email)

- Peer Mentoring (Mentor Academy): Identify, train, and support Mentoring Champions within and across sections to organize regular mentoring sessions based on the section members’ needs
- Research Mentoring: Collaborate with the Office of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development to provide certified research mentor training for researchers in all areas (basic science, clinical, translational, educational, health system science, etc.)

- Wellness Initiative Supporting Health (WISH) Grants: Twice a year, we fund select applications that encourage diverse, creative, and collaborative proposals fostering well-being among faculty and staff members, e.g., fitness, team building, fun activities, networking, mediation, and more.
- Wednesday Wellness Blast: one-page infographic with clickable links to ongoing wellness activities
- BeWell Program: Encourage eligible members to participate in this scientific, evidence-based BCM resource to help members reach their wellness goals (body, mind, environment, finances, community)
