The American Board of Anesthesiology requires that all physician-only and advanced applicants complete 6 months of inpatient service.
In an attempt to assist our trainees, we also highly suggest that they complete:
- 1 month of Emergency Medicine
- 2 months of Critical Care service
Also, the ACGME will only allow 1 month of Anesthesiology during an intern year.
Interviews are usually conducted in October, November and December. A selection of dates will be provided in the invitation to interview that the applicant receives via Thalamus.
Each year, the program directors determine the setting for our interviews based on the current national recommendations. These interviews will be conducted virtually this year.
Passing USMLE Step 2 CK on the 1st attempt with a score of 245 or above is required, as well as passing USMLE Step 1 on the 1st attempt.
Step 2 is required prior to considering an applicant for an interview.
In addition to the standard application requirements, IMGs are required to have completed, or be in the process of completing, one year of clinical training (PGY-1) in the United States in an ACGME-accredited program.
