Translational research is a major priority of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and this RFA seeks to fund new collaborations between laboratory and clinical investigators to promote translation of findings from DLDCCC laboratories to clinical testing.
For this RFA we invite applications where there is a basic and clinical PI, with the goal of developing or optimizing a clinical protocol.
Research projects eligible for this award are:
- Research aimed at translation of a scientific finding in a DLDCCC laboratory to a clinical trial.
- Research aimed at optimizing a clinical strategy.
Eligible projects will:
- Have two project leaders with one a laboratory scientist and one a clinical investigator
- Both leaders must be DLDCCC members
- The project may target any cancer, but we encourage applications that target catchment area cancers or cancers where there are fewer open clinical trials.
- Provide a timeline to show translation is feasible within one year
- Proposals involving simple large sample acquisition or data analysis from existing trials will not be supported
- Proposals from current breast or lymphoma SPORE key personnel will not be supported as they have other mechanisms for translational support
Budgets of up to 100K for one year may be requested.
Review Criteria will include:
- Strength of the scientific rationale and degree of innovation
- Feasibility of proposal
- Likelihood of translation to the clinic and obtaining subsequent funding
- Relevance to DLDCCC strategic goals and catchment area issues
Applications should be submitted through the DLDCCC Proposal Submission Portal by 5 p.m. Aug. 12, 2024 and include:
- Specific Aims – 1 page
- Research Plan including Background, Innovation and Research Strategy – 3 pages
- Timeline – 1 page
- Budget justification – 1 page
- NIH Bio sketches for project leaders
Proposals will be reviewed by the DLDCCC Research Review Committee who will recommend applications for funding to the DLDCCC Executive Committee. The funding will be for $100K per year with feasibility of extension by an additional $50K based on progress at the end of year.
The deadline for the submissions is 5 p.m. Aug. 12, 2024. The applications will be reviewed, and funding will be provided by Oct. 1, 2024.
