Oncofertility – Fertility preservation in cancer patients

Cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, may bring the risk of infertility.

At Baylor College of Medicine, our Oncofertility program helps patients understand the impact cancer treatment can have on their fertility, enabling them to make the most informed decisions about future family building. We also help those with other conditions, such as sickle cell disease or aplastic anemia, who receive treatments similar to cancer patients.

Our unique program is made possible through the partnership of three renowned institutions – Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. 

Our shared goal: to increase every patient’s chance of having a biological child in the future through fertility counseling, testing, and preservation.

Our proven Oncofertility program combines the expertise of two specialties, oncology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI), giving patients new hope for fertility after cancer treatment.

Our team of Reproductive Endocrinologists at Baylor College of Medicine is exceptionally trained to meet oncologic patients’ needs and perform all fertility preservation procedures. In addition, our Baylor-TCH Family Fertility Center laboratory uses cutting-edge techniques and pioneers ovarian tissue cryopreservation in the country.

Baylor-TCH Family Fertility Center has physicians, embryologists and coordinators specifically dedicated to fertility preservation in cancer patients. This makes the journey through this process trouble-free for the patients and their families.

We provide comprehensive fertility preservation services to help women, men and children whose fertility may be impacted by cancer, its treatment, or similar treatments for other serious conditions. We specialize in offering fertility preservation procedures also to patients who are in remission or might have diminished ovarian reserve after cancer treatments.

Patients come to us for:   

• Fertility counseling before cancer treatment – to help newly diagnosed patients understand their risk of infertility and the fertility preservation options available to them prior to treatment 
• Fertility testing and treatment planning 
• Fertility preservation – including cryopreservation of eggs (oocytes), embryos, sperm and ovarian tissue, as well as ovarian suppression 
• Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) – to test embryos conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) for specific genetic conditions before being implanted
• Access to Baylor Medicine’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) team – for specialized care that optimizes outcomes for pregnant women with a history of cancer
