The specialists in Maternal-Fetal Medicine provide care to the high-risk pregnant woman and her unborn baby. High-risk patients are those with medical or surgical problems, previous pregnancy complications, multiple births, and other conditions that increase the need for close monitoring and assessment of the ongoing pregnancy. Prenatal diagnosis and genetic testing is offered in our department with the assistance of the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics.

We also provide a full range of fetal care, therapy and surgery with assistance of Texas Children's Fetal Center. These services include prenatal evaluation, diagnosis, ultrasound, invasive fetal therapy and open fetal surgery. Our fetal intervention specialists (see Physicians - Maternal-Fetal Medicine) provide integrated, multidisciplinary care for mothers carrying babies with genetic or anatomic birth defects requiring therapy before or immediately after birth.
