Section Overview
The Section of Immunology, Allergy and Rheumatology is committed to education, research and patient care in allergic, immunodeficient, autoimmune and rheumatic diseases.
We have two outstanding, independent clinical fellowship training programs in rheumatology and allergy/clinical immunology. We are actively engaged in the education of graduate and medical students, internal medicine residents and post-doctoral research fellows at Baylor College of Medicine.
Our faculty and trainees are involved in basic, translational and clinical research programs funded through the National Institutes of Health, Department of Veterans Affairs and national research organizations. Many faculty are also involved in The Biology of Inflammation Center, which focuses on advancing our understanding of the role of the immune system and inflammation in allergy and autoimmune diseases. Also, our clinical programs are also engaged in research, including clinical trials, clinical outcomes research and a bio-repository. In the past year, our research programs published over 35 manuscripts in high quality medical and scientific journals and awarded over $3.5 million in research grants.
Our clinical programs in rheumatology provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for patients with autoimmune diseases, arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Our clinical programs in allergy and immunology provide state of the art testing and treatment of patients with allergies, asthma and immune deficiencies. Patients can seek care in the Baylor Medicine practice at the McNair Campus, Harris Health and the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
