Mentoring

Content

It is our goal at Texas Children’s to provide the support needed to help grow your career. Whether your interests lie in education, research, quality improvement, global health, or involvement in national organizations, we have faculty who will help you identify opportunities within these areas and actively guide your growth. It is indeed our faculty’s dedication to and investment in our fellows that defines our program.

As a baseline, Dr. Trivedi will meet with fellows on a monthly basis so that clinical milestones and previously set goals can be assessed. Feedback from and to the fellows will be given in these meetings. Based on individual interests, each fellow will also be paired with a faculty mentor who can help further advance the fellow’s career path over the course of the year.

Quality Improvement

  • Identifying cardiac patients with difficult or challenging airways to allow prompt recognition and preparation in the post-operative period in the cardiac ICU
  • Repurposing NIRS probes used intraoperatively for post-operative use to reduce waste
  • Developing a protocol for the management of post-bypass bleeding using point-of-care ROTEM@ analysis
  • Minimizing cryoprecipitate waste by substituting its use with RiaSTAP@ in patients > 5 kg in need of fibrinogen
  • Developing an order set for vasoactive medications with weight-based concentrations and syringe sizes to eliminate inter-provider variability in concentrations and volumes ordered

Research Infrastructure

The recently developed Anesthesiology Research Core (ARC) at Texas Children’s Hospital provides leadership and resources for those seeking to conduct research within pediatric anesthesia.

Fellows can meet with ARC leadership to discuss a research idea at its infancy and for support and guidance in developing this idea into a robust study.

The ARC provides administrative, regulatory, grant, and statistical services and also has several full-time research nurses and research coordinators available for specific study assignments.
