Cancer Research Career Enhancement Core

The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center is committed to developing the next generation of outstanding cancer biology researchers, and to ensuring that a diverse pool of highly trained biomedical scientists and health care professionals are available to meet the nation’s basic, clinical, population science, and translational cancer needs.

The Associate Directors for Education, Drs. Fuqua and Yustein, provide leadership in development, integration, and support of cancer-related education activities within Baylor College of Medicine and hospital affiliates. The CRCE Core Committee facilitates and integrates graduate, postdoctoral, and clinical training for individuals, as well as facilitating efforts such as training grants.

The committee coordinates with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the School of Medicine, the Postdoctoral Association and the Duncan Cancer Center leadership to develop and coordinate resources and educational efforts to ensure optimal integration of all educational activities, at all trainee levels. The committee is also committed to developing innovative approaches for the recruitment of trainees from underserved populations.

Training Programs

Currently, there are 13 cancer-relevant T32 training awards and two training grants funded by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) at the Duncan Cancer Center, and 12 competitive training programs have been established, with an outstanding record of training minorities.
