All residents will be assigned to one of the program directors as a mentor at the start of their first year and may subsequently choose their own faculty mentor in second year based on their interests. The faculty mentor is intended to serve as a guide and advocate for the resident regarding residency education issues. While residents are encouraged to meet with their mentors often, they are required to meet formally every six months.

Mentors review the resident’s portfolio in order to provide the resident with substantive feedback as to his/her performance and progress and can help make recommendations for fellowship applications, career goals, and research.

Each incoming resident is also assigned a resident mentor as a peer-to-peer resource for any questions that may arise. Each rotation also has an upper level paired with first years, to help orient them to the rotation and help with any other issues during the rotation.
