Department of Pathology & Immunology

Pathology Residency Curriculum

The program offers at least 18 months of Anatomic Pathology and 18 months of Clinical Pathology that offer diverse clinical experiences with core rotations at Ben Taub Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital, and Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. The forensic autopsy month is completed at Harris County Institute of Forensic Science (HCIFS).

In addition to internal electives, residents have outside elective opportunities at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, (MDACC) Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH), and UT Health Science Center at Houston as well as rotation opportunities at St. Joseph Medical Center - an associated community pathology practice.

The volume, variety, and complexity of our surgical and clinical cases easily rival that of any top-ranked program. Each year offers unique training opportunities and graduated levels of responsibility.

We encourage residents to participate in local and regional pathology organizations, including the Texas Society of Pathologists (TSP) and Houston Society of Clinical Pathologists (HSCP) and strongly support trainee representation in national organizations such as United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), College of American Pathologists (CAP) and American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
