Summary: This article describes the governance by which all web sites, owned and managed by Baylor College of Medicine, will be developed utilizing an approved Content Management System (CMS). A college-wide leadership and audit decision was made in 2006 that all Baylor College of Medicine department, center, program and lab websites are to be built in the College's content management system and live on the enterprise security protected servers. External site building tools and external hosting of Baylor content is not allowed. (The following are examples of tools that are not allowed: Wix, SquareSpace, Weebly, WordPress, HostGator and GoDaddy Web Builder, etc.)

Purpose: The purpose of this governance is to ensure all Baylor content will be held and propagated to sites using a College-approved CMS. No other software product may be used within Baylor College of Medicine’s approved CMS suite and its build architecture. All content editors are expected to ensure all “links” are live, tested, and appropriately implemented.
Scope: This governance applies to all websites under the bcm.edu domain and all web applications owned and managed by Baylor College of Medicine.
The Office of Communications and Community Outreach will coordinate with groups at Baylor College of Medicine to direct them to the appropriate web tools to meet needs.
The Office of Information Technology – Core Application Services is responsible for ensuring all centrally developed websites, software, and applications are built within the primary CMS for the College.
Site developers are responsible for using the approved CMS solution. However, if web needs are not provided by the approved CMS solution, the site developer is responsible for providing a scope of work for non-centrally developed websites, software, and applications owned by Baylor College of Medicine. Email requests to the Digital Governance Subcommittee.
All submissions for a new site or updates to an existing site will include a review of CMS solution leveraged.
Deviations from this guidance will result in websites and web pages being removed from the bcm.edu site, with or without notice by Baylor College of Medicine Digital Governance Subcommittee.
